Pompeii. This morning, the security and reception staff of the Pompeii Archaeological Park stopped a Kazakh tourist who was carving the letters “ALI” on a light plaster in the House of the Ceii.
The tourist was reported to the fixed post of the Carabinieri near the excavations of Pompeii and will have to answer for the damage caused to the heritage. Restorers and coordination personnel intervened on site to carry out technical assessments.
Park director Gabriel Zuchtriegel explained: “This is an uncivilized act. Thanks to the new law introduced by Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano, the perpetrator will have to pay for the restoration of the wall.
Well done to the collaborators of the Ministry and the Ales company who promptly intervened. Excellent collaboration with the Carabinieri whom we thank for their promptness.”
Unfortunately, even today we find ourselves commenting on an uncivilized and idiotic attack on our artistic and cultural heritage. After the Roman domus in the Herculaneum Archaeological Park was defaced with a permanent marker, this time we see an incision on the light-colored plaster in the House of the Ceii in Pompeii.
Minister Sangiuliano: “A very serious act that will be prosecuted”
This is a very serious act that will be severely prosecuted and, also thanks to the new law that I strongly supported, the perpetrator will be forced to repay the costs of fully restoring the damage caused.
I thank the workers of MiC and Ales for having promptly intervened and the Carabinieri who immediately stopped the tourist responsible for this vile act" , said the Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano.
