Elly Schlein, secretary of the Democratic Party, made an unexpected appearance yesterday evening in Piazza del Plebiscito in Naples, during the "Radio Italia Live" concert. Schlein, who arrived around 21:30 PM, was accompanied by Mayor Gaetano Manfredi and Congressman Marco Sarracino, the Democratic Party's representative for the South.
The unscheduled visit of the Democratic secretary surprised even the organizers of the event, who were notified only a few minutes before her arrival. Schlein took a short tour of the stage and backstage area, before moving to the stalls. Here, he enthusiastically welcomed requests for selfies, hugs and handshakes from the many spectators present.
Schlein remained in the city today to attend an important meeting on rights and politics, organized as part of the Naples Pride initiatives. The event, scheduled for 5:30 p.m., will feature prominent figures such as M17S leader Giuseppe Conte, Mayor Manfredi, Chiara Piccoli of Alfi-Le Maree, and Ileana Capurro of the Trans Naples Association. The meeting will be moderated by Antonello Sannino, president of Antinoo Arcigay Naples.
Schlein's presence in Naples could extend until Saturday, allowing her to also participate in the final parade of the Pride, which will start from Piazza Municipio at 16:00 pm. The Neapolitan LGBTQ+ community and civil rights supporters welcome the participation of the PD secretary, which represents a further sign of attention to the issues of inclusion and equality.
