Five e-bike thefts in just two months have shaken the tranquility of the Sorrento Peninsula. This morning, the Carabinieri of the Sorrento branch executed a pre-trial detention order, issued by the Torre Annunziata investigating judge at the request of the Oplonti prosecutor's office, against a man originally from Nola (Naples).
The man is considered responsible for the five episodes of aggravated theft, which occurred between January and March 2024 in the municipalities of Sorrento, Piano di Sorrento, Meta, and Sant'Agnello. Thanks to the analysis of both public and private surveillance footage, the Carabinieri from the Sorrento and Piano di Sorrento stations were able to identify the perpetrator of the thefts.
The suspect, using break-in techniques, gained entry into the courtyards of buildings by forcing the locks on high-value e-bikes parked by their owners. The seriousness of the crimes is further compounded by the fact that, in the thefts that occurred in Piano di Sorrento and Meta, the suspect violated a preventative measure: a mandatory expulsion order that banned him from returning to these municipalities for three years. Despite this, the suspect reached the locations of the thefts, deliberately violating the ban. The arrested man was transferred to the Poggioreale prison in Naples, where he will await further judicial developments.
