The New to Discover will be the leitmotif of the entire 2024/2025 season of the Teatro Nuovo in Naples, a play on words that tries to accompany the gaze of the spectator, like that of the protagonist actors themselves, to recognize in contemporary drama one of the important elements of today's society.

Fourteen shows, including prose, music and dance, will enliven the stage, from next November until April 2025, with a program full of crossovers between genres and styles, classical and contemporary texts, rewritings and new theatrical experiments, together with the second edition of the Open Dance dance festival, stand-up comedy events and a segment dedicated to the under-35 projects to be presented soon.

The experience of the relationship that the theatre establishes between the actors and the audience in this hall, due to its characteristics of place and space, has strengthened the existence of the historic hall of the Spanish Quarters, continuing its path as a place of aggregation and city culture.

“A theatrical season – underlines Alfredo Balsamo, director of the Teatro Pubblico Campano – which wants to offer the public a varied panorama of genres and languages in the continuity of an artistic line that can be recognizable but new at the same time. A program characterized by great returns and new proposals with an eye always attentive to the new dramaturgy and the new generations, who will find space in the sections dedicated to them”.

It is precisely these assumptions that stimulate us to work tenaciously to create a cultural offering that is increasingly in tune with the public, in which both "lovers" and "new" users can find the proposals increasingly interesting.

The faces of artists from the theatre scene, including Carlo Cecchi, Ascanio Celestini, Luciano Rosso and Alfonso Barón, Antonella Morea, Imma Villa, Marta Cuscunà, Giovanni Ludeno, Le Ebbanesis, Silvia Gallerano, will give voice and soul to the stories on the Neapolitan stage.

A stage that will host shows and reinterpretations by directors, in some cases also performers on stage, from the national and international scene such as Hermes Gaido, Andrée Ruth Shammah, Carlo Cerciello, Mario Perrotta, Peppino Mazzotta, Emanuele D'Errico, who will bring to the stage texts by authors such as, among others, Joseph Roth, Eduardo De Filippo, Enzo Moscato, Mattia Torre, Giacomo Ciarrapico, Igor Esposito.

The programming will start on Thursday, November 7, in the year of the 40th anniversary of Eduardo De Filippo's death, with Ditegli sempre di sì with Mario Autore, Anna Ferraioli Ravel and Domenico Pinelli, who also signs the direction. A project that Tommaso De Filippo immediately embraced, offering the opportunity to young artists to work on this wonderful text. A very funny comedy, supported by a perfect comic mechanism, full of food for thought regarding an extremely fascinating subject that Eduardo certainly studied well: madness.

Ascanio Celestini imagines Francis' life today in Rumba, the third part of a trilogy also composed by Laika and Pueblo, on stage from Thursday 14 November, accompanied by the music of Gianluca Casadei. How the saint would experience poverty in contemporary Italy and which traveling companion he would choose, in order not to be simply poor, but a servant of the poor.

It is a show-experiment-evening-happening-sabbath-pyjama party-assembly Svelarsi, an event for women only (cis, trans, non-binary) that Silvia Gallerano will bring on stage on Tuesday, November 26. A moment of sharing and reflection rather cheerful on themes such as feminism, humiliation, revenge, guilt, self-determination, which generates a lot of laughter and an immoderate sisterhood.

In every election, the first real news is the growing abstention of those entitled to vote, an irreversible disease according to analysts. And that's how Luca Amorosino and Carlo De Ruggieri in Un giorno come un altro, starting from Thursday 5 December, will find themselves side by side in section 4607 waiting for the voters who will never arrive. A suspended show where Godot are the Italians, written and directed by Giacomo Ciarrapico.

After Serenvivity and Transleit, on Thursday 19 December, Bek Steig, the new musical show by the duo Ebbanesis, arrives, showing the artists in a dressing room, in that time made of preparation, intimacy, goliardy, confidences, misunderstandings, clarifications, ideas, concentration, which in fact precede the concert in public. The show will show the two performers with all the characteristics and nuances that represent them.

It is an adaptation of Sartre and a rewriting of Seneca's Le Troiane, a scenic creation by Carlo Cerciello that comes to life from three works by the Greek playwright, with Imma Villa, Mariachiara Falcone, Cecilia Lupoli, Serena Mazzei, from Thursday 9 January. The staging, while retaining the main theme of Euripides' tragedy, that is, the inhumanity and injustice of war that spares neither the vanquished nor the victors, abandons the clear boundaries between victims and executioners to investigate the gray areas.

Scannasurice is the text that, in 1982, marked the debut of Enzo Moscato as an author and performer, and, in 2015, staged by Carlo Cerciello, entrusting the interpretation to Imma Villa. The homage to the actor, playwright and director will be on stage from January 18. A sort of descent into the "underworld", of a character with an androgynous identity, in the Neapolitan hypogeum where he lives, inside a hovel, among the most arcane elements of Neapolitanity, in the company of mice and ghosts of Neapolitan urban legends.

Only a writer with the beautiful soul of a poet like Joseph Roth could tell in a few pages one of those stories that immediately strike a chord in our hearts like The Legend of the Holy Drinker, on stage from Thursday 30 January, with Carlo Cecchi and directed by Andrée Ruth Shammah.

The story of the protagonist Andreas is an inquisitive descent into the delirium, but above all into the impotence, of that drunken and flash-filled darkness that marks his last moments of life.

Radio Argo suite is a performance for voice and music, a rewriting of Aeschylus' Oresteia by the poet and playwright Igor Esposito, on stage from February 15th with the interpretation and direction of Peppino Mazzotta. A courageous dramaturgical undertaking, a dense score with a strong libertarian and rebellious vocation that is, however, faithful to the classical reference materials.

La Semplicità truffata, by and with Marta Cuscunà brings to light the voice of a group of young women who, in the sixteenth century, fought against social conventions, claiming freedom of thought and criticism towards male culture. On stage from February 20, the production speaks of the collective destiny of generations of women and the possibility of becoming a “chorus” to change it.

Un Poyo Rojo, on stage from March 8, is a provocation, an invitation to laugh at ourselves by exploring the entire range of physical and spiritual possibilities of the human being. An explosive show with the choreography of the Argentine artists Luciano Rosso, Alfonso Baron, also performers, and Nicolas Poggi, directed by Hermes Gaido, which combines comedy and emotion, combining theater, dance and acrobatics

The story of Alfredo, a normal man and a good person with an ordinary job, always kind and resigned to the small abuses of everyday life, comes to life in the show Migliore by Mattia Torre, with Giovanni Ludeno and directed by Giuseppe Miale di Mauro, on stage from March 15. The protagonist finds himself involved one day in an accident in which a woman loses her life. Completely acquitted by justice, he enters into a deep crisis and changes his way of relating to people.

Felicissima jurnata, on stage from Thursday 27 March, tries to capture the essence or, perhaps, the absence of real life that unites on the edge of solitude the Neapolitan bass and the protagonists of Samuel Beckett's Happy Days. A production by Emanuele D'Errico, interpreted by Antonella Morea and Dario Rea, which is born from a very specific experience, actively lived by Putéca Celidònia starting from 2018 within the Rione Sanità of Naples.

Closing the 2024/2025 theater season of the Teatro Nuovo in Naples, from April 10, will be the show Dei figli by Mario Perrotta, also starring with Luigi Bignone, Dalila Cozzolino, Matteo Ippolito, who avails himself of the dramaturgical consultancy of Massimo Recalcati. The production concludes the trilogy In the name of the father, of the mother, of the children, trying to think about that strange extended generation of "young people" between 18 and 45 years old who have no intention of resigning from the role of son.

This season's programming also reinforces the very essence of the New, so that the theatre can continue to carry out its proper function: offering the public emotions and suggestions, in the name of the stimulating and evocative power of the theatre.

The season ticket campaign will be open from Wednesday 5 June 2024, for information and updates the box office service is available at the number 0814976267 and at the email address botteghino@teatronuovonapoli.it
