Eighteen motorcyclists lost their lives on Italian roads over the past weekend (May 31 – June 2), in addition to nine motorists, four cyclists, three pedestrians, a truck driver, and a van driver, for a total of 36 victims.
A dramatic toll, sharply increasing compared to the 27 victims of the previous weekend, as reported by Asaps, the Association of Supporters of the Highway Police.
Among the victims, the youngest is a 17-year-old boy, while the oldest is an 88-year-old woman. A total of 13 of the victims were under the age of 35. The ASAPS report also includes the deaths of a man of unknown age and a 21-year-old girl, both of whom were injured in serious accidents the previous weekend and died as a result of their injuries.
The ASAPS analysis highlights two multi-fatal accidents with 5 victims, while 17 accidents fatalities were caused by vehicle ejection without third-party involvement. 16 of these accidents occurred on state and provincial roads.
The most affected regions were Lombardy with 7 victims, followed by Tuscany (5), Emilia-Romagna and Puglia (4), Trentino-Alto Adige, Veneto, Umbria and Sicily (2). The remaining victims were recorded in Piedmont, Liguria, Abruzzo, Lazio, Basilicata, Campania, Calabria and Sardinia (1).
