Following a joint investigation by the Vicenza and Avellino DIGOS (Italian Special Operations Units), a former Avellino ultras leader has been arrested in connection with incidents that occurred last Sunday at the end of the second leg of the Serie C play-off semi-final between Vicenza and Avellino, played at the Menti Stadium.
The deferred arrest was decided after, in the 19th minute of the second half, a visiting fan climbed over the fence of the away section in response to the second goal of the VicenzaThe individual approached the Vicenza fans in the "Distinti" section, striking one and trying in vain to steal a red and white flag.
This incident sparked tensions between the two sets of fans, with several other fans attempting to climb over the railings. Fortunately, the timely intervention of stewards and police prevented further clashes. However, some Irpinia fans attacked two stewards, who were treated on the spot for minor injuries.
