Torre Annunziata three loan sharks arrested: 50% interest per year

Torre Annunziata. The Torre Annunziata Financial Police have arrested three women accused of loan sharking and extortion. The investigation, coordinated by the Torre Annunziata Public Prosecutor's Office, uncovered an illicit activity that spanned years, with victims forced to endure usurious interest rates and threats to obtain repayment of the loans.

The three women, two sisters and the daughter of one of them, were placed under house arrest and two properties they owned, with a total value of 100.000 euros, were seized.

The investigation, conducted by the Guardia di Finanza, uncovered a pattern of serious criminal activity. The three women, exploiting their victims' financial difficulties, granted them loans at interest rates ranging between 40% and 50% per annum, well above the legal limit.

To obtain the return of the money and usurious interest, the suspects did not hesitate to threaten the victims, some of whom found themselves forced to give them real estate as payment for the debt.

The investigations shed light on several victims, including a man suffering from gambling addiction who sold two properties to loan sharks, and another person who found himself in financial difficulty after his spouse lost his job during the Covid-19 pandemic.
