Tania Sorrentino, wife of Maurizio Cerrato, the custodian of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii killed on April 19, 2021 in Torre Annunziata for an argument over a parking space, does not back down one step: 'I'm staying in Torre Annunziata, like them, and they'll always have a fight against me.'

Her words, addressed to her husband's killers, reveal the same determination she displayed in the first instance. The second instance trial began today at the Naples Court of Assizes of Appeal, with four defendants all sentenced to 23 years in prison in the first instance.

Two of them were connected via video conference from prison, while the other two were present in the courtroom, one behind bars and the other, elderly and under house arrest, with walking difficulties.

During the hearing, the Municipality of Torre Annunziata and the Polis Foundation joined the proceedings as civil parties. The judge explained the reasons for the first-instance ruling and the grounds for the appeal filed by both the prosecutor and the defendants' lawyers.

Cerrato's wife annoyed by requests for acquittal by the defendants' lawyers

The wife of Cerrato, present in the courtroom with her daughter Maria Adriana, involved in the attack, expressed sorrow and perplexity regarding the request for acquittal by the defendants' lawyers: 'My husband certainly didn't grab a knife and stab himself with the knife that killed him.'

At the end of the hearing, the judge set the schedule for the next stages of the trial, which will resume on June 10th with the Deputy Prosecutor General's closing statement and the closing arguments of the civil party lawyers.
