The Trianon Viviani will take part in the Festa della Musica on June 21st at 20:30 pm, presenting a new production: “La Serva padrona”, the famous intermezzo by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi with libretto by Gennaro Antonio Federico.

The performance and the cast

Set by director Mariano Bauduin in Salvatore Di Giacomo's living room, “La Serva Padrona” features among its performers the soprano Giovanna Caterina Di Luca, the bass Francesco Auriemma and the actor and baritone Maurizio Murano. The singing company will be accompanied by the Orchestra da Kamera and the choir of Piccoli Cantori di Forcella, with the musical direction of Paolo Acunzo. The Orchestra is made up of teachers and students of two Neapolitan youth groups, Sanitansamble and Piccola Orchestra di Forcella, which adopt the didactic model “el Sistema” by Josè Antonio Abreu.

Cultural and social mission

Gianni Pinto, president of Trianon Viviani, emphasizes the cultural and social importance of this production, which involves teachers and students of youth groups from Forcella and Sanità. This initiative not only promotes music, but is also a tool for social inclusion and the fight against educational poverty. Antonio Roberto Lucidi, president of Sanitansamble and member of the board of directors of Trianon Viviani, adds that “La Serva Padrona” is an opportunity for the theater to open up to the territory and promote cultural synergy. The performance will be enriched by the exhibition of the original clothes of the Cat Cenerentola, made by Odette Nicoletti, and by the prestigious figurines of Neapolitan nativity scene art.

A tribute to Neapolitan culture

Marisa Laurito, artistic director of the theater, says that the Trianon Viviani, while being the theater of Neapolitan song, also aims to preserve and spread the most authentic expressions of musical culture. “La Serva Padrona” is a tribute to artistic roots, presented in a setting in Salvatore Di Giacomo’s living room, designed by Mariano Bauduin. The performance of “La Serva Padrona” is free until all seats are taken. In conjunction with the staging, an eighteenth-century Neapolitan nativity scene will be exhibited, curated by the Capuano brothers and promoted by the Associazione delle Botteghe di San Gregorio Armeno.

Useful Information

The nativity scene exhibition will be open until Saturday 29 June, from Monday to Saturday, from 10am to 13pm and from 30pm to 16pm. For further information, you can visit the website of the Trianon theatre (teatrotrianon.org) or contact the number 19 081 and the email trianon@teatrotrianon.org.

The historical work of Pergolesi

“La Serva Padrona” was first performed in 1733 at the Teatro San Bartolomeo in Naples for the birthday of Empress Elisabeth Christine. With a libretto by Gennaro Antonio Federico, the intermezzo created a new model of comedy, influencing operas up to Rossini and contributing to the “querelle des bouffons,” which pitted supporters of Italian opera against admirers of opéra lyrique.

The plot

The plot tells the story of the servant Serpina who becomes the mistress of the house. After various stratagems and disguises, Serpina manages to make her master Uberto fall in love and marry her. Mariano Bauduin sets the show in Art Nouveau style, in Salvatore Di Giacomo's living room, to recover the atmosphere of the early twentieth century.

Cast and Credits

This production features Giovanna Caterina Di Luca and Francesco Auriemma in the main roles. Maurizio Murano plays the servant Vespone. The costumes are by Marianna Carbone, the lights by Gianluca Sacco and the audio by Daniele Chessa. The executive direction of the Orchestra is entrusted to Maurizio Baratta and the didactic direction to Gabriele Bernardo. Katia Cherubini is the choir's preparator.
