A 27-year-old man from the province of Naples was arrested in Biella on fraud charges. The criminal posed as a Carabinieri marshal to defraud an 84-year-old resident of Candelo.

With a convincing phone call, the scammer tricked the man into believing that his son had been involved in an accident and that bail was needed to avoid legal trouble. The elderly man, terrified by the situation, collected €5.000 in cash to hand over to the fake marshal.

However, during the delivery, the daughter of the elderly she suddenly arrived home. The scammer, caught red-handed, tried to escape but was chased by the woman who, in the meantime, had alerted the police.

After a brief chase, the 27-year-old was stopped by passersby and the police who intervened. All 5.000 euros stolen from the elderly man were found on the perpetrator.

The man was then arrested and taken to prison.

The daughter's timely intervention and the prompt action of the Carabinieri allowed the scam to be unraveled and the criminal to be brought to justice.

Once again, law enforcement officials urge citizens, especially the elderly, to be wary of this type of scam and never give money to unknown people.

When in doubt, it is always advisable to contact law enforcement directly to verify the true identity of anyone claiming to be a member of the police force.
