The Carabinieri have unmasked and reported a fraudster who on January 2nd had defrauded a jewelry store clerk, stealing jewelry worth approximately 7 thousand euros.
The man, a 60-year-old resident of Naples with a criminal record for property crimes, had entered the store pretending to be a customer interested in purchasing jewelry.
With a clever way of speaking, he had managed to convince the sales assistant to accept in exchange some of her jewels, which she, unaware of their zero value, had estimated at around 7 thousand euros.
Only after she fled did the sales assistant realize the deception and report the incident to the Carabinieri.
Thanks to the images from the video surveillance system of the jewelry store and using the license plate reading system data, the military was able to trace the identity of the scammer, who was already known to the police.
The man was reported for fraud and the Carabinieri are now investigating to determine whether he had accomplices and whether he is responsible for other similar incidents in the area.
