Scams targeting seniors continue unabated. The Pesaro Flying Squad recently arrested a 23-year-old couple from Naples, already known to law enforcement, after they were spotted in the city center with a rental car. The young woman had been arrested six months ago for a similar scam. Both were removed from Pesaro with expulsion orders, while the young man's license was revoked for possession of drugs.
In another episode, the police intervened in Sant'Andrea in Villis, between Pesaro and Fano, on the call of an 87-year-old woman. The woman had received a phone call from a man pretending to be a carabiniere, claiming that her son had been involved in an accident and that a woman had been taken to the hospital in serious condition.
The fake policeman asked for money or gold to keep her son from going to prison. The elderly woman replied that she only had gold, and the man told her to put everything in a bag, promising to send someone to collect it. Shortly thereafter, a young man showed up at her door pretending to be a policeman, but the woman, suspicious of his young age and lack of a company car, started screaming, scaring the scammer away.

Unfortunately, not all scams are foiled. A 50-year-old disabled woman was tricked by fake bank employees into transferring 2.000 euros to a prepaid card via bank transfer. Only after contacting the bank did she realize she had been scammed.
The Pesaro and Urbino Police Headquarters have intensified checks, arresting five people in flagrante delicto, reporting four and issuing two expulsion orders in recent weeks. The police recommend that citizens, especially the elderly, not open their doors to strangers and not believe requests for money from alleged police officers or carabinieri.
