Zumaia. An incredible rescue operation took place this afternoon in Zumaia, Spain, where an Italian tourist found herself trapped in flysch rocks due to rising tide.
According to local authorities, the woman was walking along a coastal path when she was surprised by the sudden rise in sea levels, cutting her off from the mainland.
A passerby, noticing the dramatic situation, immediately alerted the emergency services.
Several units rushed to the scene, including the Red Cross of the Sea, firefighters, and local police. Given the impossibility of reaching the woman by land due to the rugged terrain and stormy seas , a Basque Police helicopter was requested.
In a daring operation, a paramedic lowered himself from the aircraft with a rope and, despite strong gusts of wind, managed to recover the woman who was now just a few centimetres from the waves.
The tourist, shaken but unharmed, was taken to hospital in San Sebastian for medical checks.
The episode, once again, highlights the importance of paying maximum attention during excursions in coastal areas, especially in the presence of adverse marine weather conditions.
A video of the rescue, showing the dramatic phases of the operation, has been shared on social media and is making the rounds on the web. The images capture the courageous intervention of the paramedic and the gratitude of the saved woman.
