Naples. Last Saturday, during the Naples Pride 2024 parade, two young women, Dora and Anna (not their real names), were victims of a homophobic attack by two sisters.
According to the story of one of the two girls on social media, while the procession was crossing via Toledo, Dora and Anna were joking with two water pistols, splashing some passers-by. Two sisters present, annoyed by their behavior, attacked them verbally and physically with homophobic insults.
As the procession arrived in Piazza Carità, the two sisters, together with their parents, again attacked Dora and Anna, using helmets and pulling their hair.
The incident did not go unnoticed: a police car patrolling the procession intervened, identifying and reporting the perpetrators.
Dora and Anna, rescued and transported to the hospital, received a seven-day prognosis for head trauma. Subsequently, they went to the Police Headquarters to file a complaint.

This episode is a sad reminder of how deeply rooted hatred and discrimination against LGBTQ+ people remain in our society. A continued commitment to promoting respect and inclusion is needed to ensure such violence never happens again.
