Naples. An investment of over 1,2 billion euros has been allocated to definitively relaunch the Bagnoli area through the redevelopment and urban regeneration of the Site of National Interest (SIN).
The agreement was signed in the Porta del Parco auditorium between the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, and the Mayor of Naples and Extraordinary Government Commissioner, Gaetano Manfredi. The objective of the memorandum of understanding is to "ensure the rapid implementation of the interventions", as reported in the document.
The financial coverage is guaranteed by the resources already available, equal to 31,3 million euros, and by the allocations provided for by article 14 of the decree-law of 7 May 2024, equal to 1.218 million euros for the period 2024-2029.
The funds allocated come from the resources indicated for the Campania region from Cipess resolution no. 25/2023 of 3 August 2023. The main interventions include the completion of the reclamation of the urban park, energy and telecommunications infrastructure, internal roads and accessibility to the SIN area, water infrastructure, removal of the landfill and reclamation of the beaches, remediation of marine sediments and interventions on the waterfront.
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni called the project “the most ambitious environmental remediation and urban regeneration project in Europe” during her speech. Also present in the front row were the President of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca, and other institutional representatives.
De Luca welcomed Meloni with an irony that tones down previous political tensions. The ceremony ended with the signing of the protocol and a final photo with Manfredi and Minister Fitto.
Speaking to journalists, De Luca assured that “there were no particular problems”, underlining however that the 1,2 billion are funds from the Region. On the front of the unblocking of the FSC Funds destined for Campania, Fitto announced that work is underway and that “we will see each other soon”.
Mayor Manfredi reiterated his desire to foster institutional dialogue with the Government to achieve the objectives of redevelopment and regeneration, declaring that Bagnoli is destined to become a major hub for public and private investments.
He thanked Meloni and the ministers present for the attention they have paid to Naples, assuring that "today there is a robust and reliable roadmap for the definitive relaunch of the area".
