Meeting with Gravina in FIGC, Buffon will continue his role in the national team

Gianluigi Buffon, the record holder for most appearances for the Italian national team (176), has extended his contract with the Azzurri. Appointed Head of Delegation by FIGC President Gabriele Gravina last August, Buffon enthusiastically accepted the offer to continue in his role, with his contract expiring at the end of the European Championship. The FIGC made the announcement today in an official statement on its website.

During a meeting at the Federation's headquarters in Rome, Gravina reiterated his respect for Buffon and his desire to explore an even broader and more inclusive career path within Club Italia. "Gigi is an extraordinary resource for the FIGC and for the national team - he has declared Gravina - He has embraced his new role with great availability and professionalism. I thank him for his strong desire to continue contributing to the Azzurri cause. In keeping with what was announced on the day of his presentation, after graduating as a sporting director from the Coverciano course, I intend to involve him in a more operational role within the structure. His confirmation was my primary objective for the relaunch of the national team and represents excellent news for Italian football as a whole.

Buffon, visibly satisfied, expressed his enthusiasm for the confirmation: "Blue is my second skin - said the former goalkeeper - I'm delighted to be able to continue the management journey I began just under a year ago with the national team.
