Caivano, cousins ​​raped: first 2 convictions

Almost a year after the events, the Court of Naples North has issued the first convictions for the gang rapes that shocked Caivano, in the province of Naples, last summer.

The victims, two cousins ​​aged 12 and 10, had been blackmailed and abused by a gang of youths consisting of two adults and seven minors.

The adults, Giuseppe Varriale and Pasquale Mosca, were sentenced to 12 years and 5 months and 13 years and 4 months of imprisonment, respectively. Higher sentences than those requested by the Prosecutor's Office (11 years and 4 months and 12 years of imprisonment).

They will also have to compensate the victims with a provisional sum of 50 thousand euros each and 20 thousand euros to the parents of the youngest child.

Attorney Clara Niola, representing the mother of one of the victims, commented: "For the first time, the parents can breathe a sigh of relief. With this initial ruling, we have put an end to a brutal case of rape."

This morning, the trial for the three minors was held, with the sentencing postponed until next week. The civil parties in the trial are the mother of the youngest child, represented by the lawyer Clara Niola, as well as the guardians of the children. small victims with lawyer Manuela Palombi.

The Public Prosecutor has requested sentences of between nine and ten years in prison for three of the seven youths involved. For the other four, the decision has been postponed until the fall, pending a ruling from the Constitutional Court on the "Caivano decree."

The two victims, meanwhile, are still separated from their families and live in communities. The parents of the eldest have also seen their other minor children removed and placed in reception facilities.
