A shocking video shows a truck driver in Ventimiglia hitting with a belt some migrants who were hiding on his truck.
The episode occurred on Monday 15 July at the Ligurian city's truck stop and involved a man who, according to reconstructions, used a cargo strap as a weapon to hit around ten girls and boys from Eritrea.
The images, spread on social media, have sparked outrage and anger. The video shows the truck driver yelling at the migrants and hitting them with the strap on their backs as they get off the truck. Some of the people attacked scream and cry as they try to defend themselves.
According to Secolo XIX, the migrants had been welcomed the evening before by Caritas and had spent the night in the “point of widespread reception” in Ventimiglia. After the attack, they returned to Caritas to report the incident.
The police are currently investigating the incident. At the moment the identities of the people involved are unknown, as are the reasons for theaggression.

The Ventimiglia episode is only the latest in a series of violence and abuses to which migrants are subjected in Italy.
It is necessary that the competent authorities shed light on what happened and punish those responsible. It is unacceptable that in our country there are attacks of this type, which are a disgrace to civilization.
In addition to condemning the attack, it is important to underline the extremely precarious conditions in which migrants find themselves in Ventimiglia.
The only reception center in the city, Campo Roja, has been closed, leaving migrants without a safe place to stay and without access to essential services such as medical and legal assistance. It is necessary that institutions take action to guarantee migrants dignified reception and safety.
