An evening shattered by irresponsibility. A 26-year-old from Camposano, with a blood alcohol level of 1,7 g/l, caused a horrific car accident late yesterday evening, taking the life of a 27-year-old woman and leaving her two granddaughters, aged 10 and 7, unharmed but in shock.
The accident. The woman, Lucia Passariello, born in San Giuseppe Vesuviano but resident in Cicciano, together with her granddaughters, was walking along via Croce San Nicola when she was hit by the Suzuki Splash driven by the young man.
The impact was violent: the woman was thrown onto the ground, over a one-and-a-half-meter-high wall, losing her life instantly.
The girls, miraculously unharmed, were nevertheless subjected to medical checks to ascertain their conditions and the shock they suffered.
Arrested for road homicide
After the accident, the 26-year-old stopped and underwent a breathalyzer test, which revealed a blood alcohol level of 1,7 g/l, well above the legal limit of 0,5 g/l. Arrested for road murder, is now under house arrest awaiting trial.
A warning. The Camposano tragedy represents yet another dramatic warning against driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, which is increasingly being reported in the news in Naples and its province.
The consequences of such irresponsible behavior can be devastating, as in this case, where a life was shattered and two little girls were forever scarred by a traumatic event.
The first signs of alcohol-induced impairment. The first signs of impairment appear even at a blood alcohol level between 0,5 and 1 g/l, such as a decreased ability to perform simple tasks, a state of relaxation, impaired spatial perception, and a loss of alertness.
As the alcohol level increases, the symptoms worsen, seriously impairing motor coordination, language, and cognitive abilities. Driving under these conditions is extremely dangerous, as well as illegal.
Respect for life. The road is not a game. Driving under the influence of drugs is a criminal act that puts your life and the lives of others at risk. We respect life, our own and that of others, by choosing to always drive responsibly and mindfully.
