During his defamation trial, former Caserta Camorra boss Augusto La Torre reiterated in court the accusations against journalist Giuseppe Tallino, who had sued him.
The same charges that had led to his indictment: "pseudo-journalist" and "hack," were added during the hearing. La Torre accused Tallino of "wanting a bodyguard."
The episode dates back to 2018, when La Torre, convicted of dozens of murders, including the 1990 Pescopagano massacre, gave an interview to a website criticizing an article by Tallino that, in his opinion, did not reflect reality. In the interview, La Torre also harshly attacked several magistrates, including then-Deputy Prosecutor Alessandro D'Alessio.
Despite the threats, Tallino, a journalist for Cronache di Caserta, an expert in crime and judicial reporting, did not receive an escort, but only dynamic surveillance.

In court, La Torre denied having any contact with the criminal world, saying that the La Torre clan is now dissolved. However, he stressed that his cousin Francesco Tiberio La Torre was recently arrested for extortion aggravated by mafia methods.
La Torre also criticized the journalist for his most recent articles, accusing him of "persecution" against him and of being "reckless or ill-advised."
The trial is still ongoing. It remains to be seen whether La Torre's accusations against Tallino will be found to be true.
