Naples. The Naples Court of Review has revoked the precautionary house arrest order for Caserta City Council director Franco Biondi and businessman Gioacchino Rivetti, under investigation for alleged corruption related to public procurement.
Both were arrested on June 13th by the Carabinieri on orders from the Santa Maria Capua Vetere Public Prosecutor's Office as part of an investigation that also involves the municipal councilor for public works, Massimiliano Marzo, the municipal manager, Giovanni Natale, and the municipal employee, Porfidia. The latter's positions are still being examined by the preliminary investigations committee.
The charges against Biondi and Rivetti assume that the manager, with the mediation of theCouncilor March, allegedly favored the awarding of contracts to the Corim company owned by Rivetti, including the one for the renovation of the municipal dog kennel.
The contract was allegedly awarded illegally, with work beginning even before the award resolution was signed.

In exchange for his compliant behavior, Biondi allegedly received insurance coverage for a vintage Mercedes and some renovation work on his home. Both suspects have firmly denied the charges against them.
The revocation of house arrest for Biondi and Rivetti represents a first step for their defense, which is now awaiting the outcome of the preliminary hearing regarding the other suspects.
