A collapse that shakes not only homes, but also souls. A Scampia, where the tragic collapse has damaged not only buildings but also lives, the priority is now to soothe the trauma and accompany people, especially the little ones, towards healing.
This is strongly emphasized by the president of the Order of Psychologists of Campania, Armando Cozzuto, who expresses the closeness of the entire organization to the victims of the tragedy.
“We are dealing with children and families who were already living in socio-economic and cultural disadvantage,” explains Cozzuto. “This traumatic event adds to their experience, creating a further burden of suffering and mourning.
Intervening promptly is essential, especially for the youngest, to prevent the initial response to trauma from turning into a real psychopathology”.
Losing your home, your safety, your daily routine can have a profound impact on your psyche, causing anxiety, mood disorders and other problems. For this reason, the Order of Psychologists, in collaboration with the Civil Protection, has activated a psychological support service for people affected by the collapse.
The goal is to help people process the trauma and find resources to deal with the situation. “It's important that no one stays silent,” says Cozzuto.
“Especially children, who risk interpreting what happened in different ways and developing fears and anxieties. Our job is to listen to them, understand them and help them express their emotions in a healthy way”.
With professionalism and sensitivity, psychologists will be at the side of the families of Scampia in this difficult moment, helping them to find strength and hope for a better future.
