The association “Tassisti di Base” calls for increased controls in the areas of Naples with the highest influx of customers, to combat illegality and fraudulent fares.
The problem of inflated tariffs
Recently, on the island of Ischia, the Guardia di Finanza fined some taxi drivers for inflating the prices of rides: citizens and tourists paid, for example, 100 euros for a trip that would normally cost 45 euros. This phenomenon, unfortunately, is also present in Naples, especially in high-traffic areas such as the airport, the port and the Central Station.
Request for more controls
To combat this problem and ensure legality in the sector, the association “Tassisti di Base” calls for a significant increase in controls by law enforcement. The greater presence of customers in these areas increases the likelihood of scams to the detriment of users.
Appeal to institutions
“We are now on the brink of institutional ruin: we have been asking for a long time for perpetual protection at the airports to guarantee safety for our users, and the Municipality always responds with nothing”, complains the association. For about three years, the association has brought the problems at airports, railways and maritime terminals to the attention of the Transport and Legality departments, trying to limit the inconveniences caused by a small unhealthy part of the category.
Conclusions and final requests
The association concludes: “We are still forced to further disturb the illustrious prefect Di Bari, asking for a meeting to urge the departments of the Municipality of Naples to intervene immediately to try to stem the illegality in our sector”.
