In a letter sent to the Sassari Surveillance Judge, another prisoner, the Caserta boss , has raised the alarm about Di Lauro's precarious psychological condition. Belforte describes a man who refuses food, isolates himself and seems on the verge of giving up.

The former boss of Secondigliano, sentenced to life imprisonment for numerous murders, is detained under the 41 bis regime in Sassari.

Despite his violent past, his lawyer raised concerns about his mental health, asking for a psychiatric evaluation. A request that was supported in a letter from Belforte, who tried in vain to help Di Lauro.

An expert assessment was finally ordered by the judge, but the results were contradictory. Di Lauro was cooperative at times, while at others he refused all contact.

The case of Di Lauro, anticipated today by the newspaper Il Mattino, reopens the debate on the psychological consequences of violence and detention. Although he was removed from the scene of the Scampia feud, the memories of that bloody war seem to torment him even today.

“This boy is not pretending and is not psychologically well, he does not eat and has become a skeleton”. This is what Domenico Belforte, a 26-year prisoner in hard prison, wrote in a letter sent a few weeks ago to the Surveillance Judge of Sassari.

In short, Belforte calls for attention to "a certain Marco Di Lauro", indicating him as a subject at risk. Belforte writes again: "The agents, in addition to checking him more often, can't do anything else. I tried in every way to make him reason, I tried to feed him and, I must point out, I did it without any interest, since I only met Marco Di Lauro in this institute.

I tried to get him to come for a walk with me, but I couldn't. This boy is slowly dying and if you don't intervene it will be another suicide in prison."
