Maurizio de Giovanni and Marco Zurzolo will be special guests at Agorà, the summer festival of San Sebastiano al Vesuvio, for the national debut of “Pugni nel cuore”. The show will take place tomorrow, Thursday 4 July 2024, at 21:15 pm, with a presentation curated by the host Emma Di Nicuolo.
A Unique Event in the Arena
Beloved writer and screenwriter Maurizio de Giovanni brings the full version of his reading "Fists in the Heart" to the stage for the first time in an arena, accompanied by Marco Zurzolo's musicians. The show, which premiered briefly aboard the MSC Grandiosa for the presentation of the Giallo Festival, addresses the sensitive topic of gender-based violence from the perpetrator's perspective, exploring the dark nuances of love, such as jealousy, obsession, and hatred.
Gender Violence in de Giovanni's Stories
In "Fists in the Heart," Maurizio de Giovanni moves between crimes of passion and stories of loneliness steeped in anger, twisted love, and news stories seen from the criminals' unique perspective. "Hate is a perversion of love," de Giovanni explains. "Writing about crimes of passion inevitably means describing love. Faced with the black hole of gender violence, lawyers defend, magistrates judge, and the police investigate. Writers, however, seek the whys. The only way I can answer this why is to tell stories, showing how terrible it is that a woman's fears only become relevant once she disappears."
The Agora Program
The Arena's cinema program continues with the screening of the new restored 4K version of "Sbatti il mostro in prima pagina" by Marco Bellocchio, welcomed at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival with long applause. Saturday, July 6 will be the turn of the film "Six Brothers" directed by Simone Godano, while Sunday, July 7 will be screened "Oppenheimer" by Christopher Nolan.
