Naples. The apartments in the former rectory adjacent to the church of San Biagio ai Taffettanari in Naples, occupied illegally by families with ties to organized crime, have been vacated. The eviction took place on Saturday, as ordered by the judicial authorities.
The news, released by MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli, was confirmed by the Naples Prosecutor's Office. At the end of May, the former rectory, a 16th-century gem in Naples' historic center, was seized. Members of the Macor family, including criminals and convicted criminals, were staying inside.
According to investigators, seven members of the family had illegally occupied the rectory, illegally increasing the living space. The former rectory of the church of San Biagio ai Taffettanari, a property of historical and architectural importance, is owned by the Opera Pia of the same name, under the administration of the Prefecture of Naples.
The crimes contested are invasion of land and buildings, construction of illegal construction works and defacement and destination of cultural assets for incompatible uses.

The eviction and the declarations
"The squatters left within the timeframe established by the judicial authorities," said MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli, who had submitted a parliamentary question on the matter following Report's investigation. "The perpetrators of this deplorable affair must be brought to justice. People like the Macors do not represent Naples. I thank the judicial authorities, the Prefect of Naples, the current heads of the Curia, the municipality, and the police for putting an end to this disgrace."
Borrelli then added: "They boast of their power, their money, they show off luxury and weapons, but then they live like parasites and beggars. I have boundless contempt for these people, and I will not rest until they are eradicated, along with the criminal and violent mentality they have passed down from generation to generation. Let's free Naples from this malignant tumor. Now let the building be restored and handed over to those truly in need."
The future of the former rectory
The goal is to restore the former rectory and use it for social purposes, allocating it to citizens in genuine need.
