The City Council of Naples has made a significant decision to commemorate Franco Di Mare, the renowned Rai journalist and war correspondent, who passed away on May 17 at the age of 68 due to mesothelioma. In recognition of his contribution to journalism and the city of Naples, a street or square will be named after him.
During today's session, the Council expressed its desire to dedicate a public place to Di Mare, preferably near the Rai studios. “We want to pay homage to a son of Naples, one of the greatest exponents of Italian journalism of the last forty years”, declared the municipal representatives.
The mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, remembered with emotion the professional and civil commitment of Di Mare, underlining how he has always embodied and promoted the values of his hometown. "Franco DiMare he gave a lot to Naples. In his work, he always claimed the values that Naples transmitted to him, putting them into practice in his profession”, said the mayor.
The commemoration ceremony was attended by Gino and Lucia Di Mare, brother and sister of the deceased journalist. Gino Di Mare described the moment as “very exciting” for him and his sister, reflecting on the profound meaning of this initiative exactly two months after the loss of Franco.
