The "Beyond the Garden" series concludes on Sunday, July 21st with the debut of the play "Quei due," performing at 6:30 pm in the Secret Garden of the Royal Palace of Portici. The series, conceived by Mario Gelardi, is produced in collaboration with the BLab association, organized by Idee fuori scena and the Nuovo Teatro Sanità association, in collaboration with the MUSA – Museums of the Royal Palace of Portici and the Department of Agriculture, with the support of ConTRA Group, the series' sponsor. "Quei due," written by Ciro Burzo and directed by Carlo Geltrude, features actors Gaetano Migliaccio and Giovanna Sannino, protagonists of the TV series "Mare fuori." The show aims to openly expose domestic abuse. Tickets are €15.
The theme
“Quei due” brings to the stage a toxic love relationship, exploring subtle behaviors that are often underestimated or accepted as an integral part of a love relationship. This love, in reality, turns into obsession and deprivation. The spectator has the opportunity to observe the relationship between the two protagonists, told through various paintings, taking us to different places and times. The fragmented narration of the show represents situations and dialogues that recall real, everyday experiences. The aim is to invite the audience to critically examine the ambiguities of violence and to seek greater awareness of the power dynamics within love relationships.
The words of director Carlo Geltrude
Carlo Geltrude, the show's director, explains: " In the show, the metaphor of the lunar phases is conveyed directorially through the rhythm of the stage, attempting to represent the prelude to violence within the relationship. In the early stages, violence is only glimpsed: it manifests itself in small, everyday gestures. It is present, but not entirely recognizable and, therefore, more insidious. The relationship between the protagonists grows under the spectators' gaze, until the tension becomes fully visible. The moon, like violence, is actually always full, even when we don't see it, and it's just waiting to reveal itself completely for what it is ."
