Naples. A banner dedicated to Mario Paciolla, the Neapolitan United Nations aid worker found dead four years ago in Colombia.

Paciolla was there as an observer to verify the correct implementation of the peace agreements between the Government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of the South American country, it was exhibited at the headquarters of the Cgil in via Toledo in Naples.

The banner was unveiled during an initiative in which Mario's parents took part. Paciolla, Pino and Anna, the confederal secretary of Cgil Naples and Campania, Raffaele Paudice, the spokesperson for Amnesty International Naples, Tina Marinari, the spokesperson for Article 21 Campania, Désirée Klain, deputy general secretary of the Fnsi, Claudio Silvestri, the cartoonist Mauro Biani, the general secretary of Cgil Naples and Campania, Nicola Ricci and the confederal secretary of Cgil, Lara Ghiglione.

"There's an obvious truth," said Anna, the aid worker's mother, "that we've known for four years. We've tried, in every way, to make Mario's story known.

There is important circumstantial evidence, but there is also scientific evidence that gives us certainty that Mario did not kill himself, but that he was certainly killed.

Our lawyers, along with a team of experts, are evaluating the prosecutor's conclusions to prepare a new opposition and ask the judge to uphold it. Today's CGIL initiative is truly very important for us.

On July 15th at 18,30:XNUMX pm in Piazza Municipio, four years after Mario's death, a moment of reflection and remembrance has been organized. We ask for maximum participation. We must tell everyone that we are not closing the book, because Mario's story is not a family affair; it involves everyone.

CGIL Naples and Campania General Secretary Nicola Ricci emphasized the need to "strengthen our search for the truth about the Paciolla case. We have decided to support this important battle because it also speaks to denied rights.

This story cannot be forgotten, there are investigative implications that still leave too many doubts and that speak, making it pass as true, of a phantom suicide.

Mario Paciolla dedicated his life and his death to the defense of human rights. His mission as a UN aid worker has always been characterized by the pursuit of democracy, freedom, and equality. We will also support the promoters of other initiatives that will be implemented.

CGIL confederation secretary Lara Ghiglione remembered Paciolla in her closing remarks: "He is a young man who left our country to carry out an important social work, to defend the rights of others, and was then left alone, with his family, without the will to find the truth.

For us, this initiative is a way to be close to the many girls and boys who leave our country to carry out these activities, who are often forgotten and for whom there are no answers even from the point of view of personal and work protection.

This is a place where it is right for the CGIL to be, to uncover the truth and also give voice to the commitment of many young people."
