The Public Prosecutor's Office of the Court of Torre Annunziata has given the green light to the works for the replacement of the conduct which feeds the Sorrento Peninsula and the Island of Capri.
According to an official note, the interventions will begin at 21:00 pm on Tuesday 30 July and will concern a section of the supply pipeline located in the locality of “La Palombara” in the Municipality of Castellammare di Stabia (Naples), where a fault occurred last 20 June.
The work involves laying a new pipeline approximately 50 meters long and 60 centimeters in diameter. Due to the impervious position of the pipeline, located approximately 30 meters above ground, it will be necessary to employ numerous technicians and special equipment, including three mobile platforms, one of which is aerial.
The work schedule includes a detailed procurement and distribution plan to ensure service resumption in optimal time.
The water interruption is scheduled from 21:00 pm on Tuesday 30 July to 03:00 am on Thursday 1 August, for a total of thirty hours, and will affect some areas in the municipalities of Vico Equense, Meta, Piano di Sorrento, Sant'Agnello, Sorrento and Massa Lubrense.
For the municipalities of the island of Capri, the suspension of service will be limited to the night time slots, except for some more impacted locations, supplied only by the pipeline and not by the tanks.
The plan for the management of the replacement water service, agreed with the Campania Water Authority and discussed in meetings at the Prefecture and on the island of Capri, chaired by the Prefect of Naples Michele di Bari, provides for the strengthening of the tanker service on the mainland and the possible use of a ship to transport the tankers needed for the island of Capri.
Citizens are reminded that water is a precious resource that should not be wasted. We therefore invite you to use it exclusively for food and personal hygiene needs, avoiding non-essential uses such as irrigation, washing cars and watering yards and gardens.
