Between accounts, spending forecasts, anti-fraud manuals, the ritual of the sale, Saturday 6 July starting practically throughout Italy, with the exception of Trentino Alto Adige.

An event that, despite climate changes that are often shifting seasonal purchases and other occasions created to pump consumption such as Black Friday, always remains the favorite for shopping in the hearts of Italians.

Spending might seem to be down a bit, but you know, you can't resist the pair of trousers you spotted at the beginning of the season—which you needed but were a bit too expensive—or the whim of an extra shirt—which you didn't need—but which now costs really little.

In short, according to Confesercenti, more than one in two consumers—55%, compared to 61% in 2023—intends to purchase at least one fashion item or product, for a total turnover estimated at over 3,5 billion euros.

According to estimates by the Confcommercio Research Office, more than 15 million families will purchase discounted items: each will spend an average of €202—equal to €92 per capita. There will be time to decide.

The shortest promotional sales are in Lazio and Liguria (6 weeks respectively and until August 19th), the longest in Val d'Aosta (until September 30th), followed by Puglia and Sicily (September 15th), and then all together Abruzzo, Calabria, Campania, Emilia Romagna, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Lombardy, Molise, Sardinia, Tuscany, Umbria (60 days from July 6th).

Basilicata will end on September 4th, while Marche, Piedmont and Veneto on August 30th. In Trento, however, the sales will be for 60 days in free period. In Alto Adige from July 16th to August 19th but on different dates in many holiday resorts.

According to surveys, the main items of desire on sale are shoes, with sneakers being the key word, but also ballet flats, sandals, and technical footwear, followed by t-shirts and tops, and in third place, trousers and skirts.

The top ten also includes dresses and suits and shirts, then costumes and beachwear, pajamas/nightgowns and finally bags. Help with shopping, it should be noted, will also come from the fourteenth salary that recently arrived in the pockets of about 8 million Italians.

This is a significant breath of fresh air, especially since Confcommercio reported that of 24 fashion stores closing, only half reopen. However, the sector remains a significant segment of the retail market, which, according to the latest data from Confimprese, generates a total turnover of €445 billion.

However, retailers and consumers are reminded to be wary of scams, with some basic rules to always follow: keep your receipt; know that goods can be exchanged; that you can always pay by POS; and that it's best to be wary of excessive discounts. The consumer might not be the one making the deal.
