Shortly before 18.00pm yesterday, following a report of a violent fight in progress between two non-EU citizens, received by the Company's Operations Centre Carabinieri of Maddaloni through the emergency number "112", the military of the local station intervened in Piazza Castra Marcelli in San Felice a Cancello, in the Caserta area.
Once the police arrived on site, they found a 45-year-old man of Moroccan origin lying on the ground with an obvious stab wound in the armpit area. He was immediately helped by medical personnel from the "118" service who arrived at the same time.
The immediate investigations carried out by the soldiers of the Cancello station made it possible to trace the attacker, who in the meantime had moved away with the intention of disappearing, to the nearby railway yard. The 58-year-old Tunisian, already known to the police, was blocked and arrested.
The violent argument, reconstructed by the military also thanks to the testimonies of some citizens present in Piazza Castra Marcelli, would have been triggered shortly before by trivial reasons and would then have degenerated into a clash of blows with glass bottles during which the 45-year-old would have got the worst of it. I am pierced in the armpit area by sharp pieces.
The latter, transported by ambulance to the hospital in Caserta, underwent surgery to suture the left axillary artery and the severed veins. He currently remains hospitalized with a reserved prognosis.
The arrested person, after having been treated at the same hospital following a wound to his cheekbone caused by the victim during the struggle, was accompanied to the Santa Maria Capua Vetere prison. He will have to answer for attempted murder.
