The Naples Police Chief issued 16 measures to ban access to sports events (DASPO), coordinated and prepared by the Police Anti-Crime Division of the Police Headquarters. These measures, which aim to guarantee safety and public order during football matches and other sporting events, have affected several individuals involved in episodes of violence and illegality.
Seven of the DASPOs, with a duration varying between 3 and 7 years, were addressed to individuals between the ages of 19 and 41. These individuals, at the end of the Turris-Messina match on January 27, attacked the Police with clubs, stones and other blunt objects.
The violent action, which took place near the stadium, involved the throwing of paper bombs and smoke bombs against the officers who were ensuring the safety of the away fans. Thanks to the footage from the surveillance cameras, the attackers were identified and reported for various crimes, including throwing dangerous material, damage, personal injury, violence and resisting a public official.
Three more DASPOs, each lasting one year, were issued against three people aged 27, 28 and 50. These individuals were reported for lighting smoke bombs during the football match “Il Punto di Svolta-Boys Napoli Ponticelli”. A further two-year measure was adopted against a 26-year-old Neapolitan, reported for throwing smoke bombs during the Napoli-Lecce match on 26 May.
Finally, five DASPO, with durations ranging from two to four years, were issued against people involved in serious crimes. Among them, one was convicted of attempted extortion, another of attempted aggravated robbery and personal injury. Two people were fined for drug-related crimes, while the last is being investigated for criminal association aggravated by mafia methods and disturbed freedom of auctions.
