They managed to get an elderly woman to hand over cash, jewelry, and valuables totaling approximately 80 euros, after convincing her that the money would be used to release her son, who had been arrested following a road accident he had caused. fraud carried out last January in Trieste against a woman of about 90 years old and which in recent days led to the arrest of two men in Naples.
The elderly woman was contacted by phone by a self-styled lawyer demanding money for her son's release. Concerned about her relative's fate, she managed to gather all her valuables and cash at home and hand them over to an emissary who had reached her home in the meantime. While he collected the money, an accomplice remained on the street to act as lookout.
The investigation was conducted by the Trieste Carabinieri and directed by Deputy Prosecutor Lucia Baldovin. By reviewing surveillance camera footage in the area and analyzing phone records, it was possible to identify the two men, who were also responsible for a similar scam in Falconara Marittima. In collaboration with the Naples Carabinieri, the two were located and taken to the prison in the city.
