The scene, strangely out of the ordinary, arouses the curiosity of some passers-by who, intrigued, approach the vehicle. The smell intensifies as they get closer to the rear door. One of them, suspecting that something was wrong, does not hesitate to call the single number for emergencies.
In a few minutes, the Carabinieri from the Sant'Antimo branch and the Giugliano operational and radiomobile unit arrive on the scene. The soldiers, equipped with latex gloves and masks, cautiously approach the van. With a quick and decisive gesture, one of the Carabinieri lifts one of the numerous cardboard boxes that were blocking the cargo area.
The total surprise: under the harmless packaging, usually intended to transport fragrant baked goods, a very different treasure was hidden. Blocks of hashish, perfectly packaged and carefully stacked. With a quick count, we arrive at 226 blocks, for a total weight of over 22 kilograms.
