The Aragonese Castle of Baia will be the magnificent setting for the "Antro" festival, which, from August 30th to September 15th, will host its fourth edition of cultural, artistic, and musical events. Funded by the Campi Flegrei Archaeological Park and supported by the Ministry of Culture – Directorate General for Entertainment, the festival will feature unmissable events.
Opening with the Gio Cristiano Mediterranean Quartet
On August 30, at 21:00 p.m., the festival will open with a concert by the Gio Cristiano Mediterranean Quartet, with Dean Bowman as a special guest. The performance, entitled “Del blue (ed altre essenze)”, will feature a mix of jazz harmonies and blues songs in the Neapolitan language. The event is organized by the Aspro Cuore association and will feature Gio Cristiano (guitar and vocals), Marco Ciardiello (electric piano), Emanuele De Luca (electric bass), Angelo Calabrese (drums and percussion) and Dean Bowman (vocals).
Mind Moves Matter
Fabio Pagano, director of the Archaeological Park of Campi Flegrei, explains the theme “Mens agitat molem”, translated as “The mind moves matter”. The interpretation aims to celebrate the victory of the spirit over matter, linking the concept to Stoic philosophy. The mind, understood as that of the visitors, moves the matter of the park, the stones, the bricks, the rock and the marble.
Continuations and Variety of Events
On August 31st, at 21:00 pm, “Moby Dick the Enchantress. Monologue for Seven Voices Around the White Whale” by Rosalba Di Girolamo, based on Herman Melville’s masterpiece, will be held. On September 1st, at the same time, it will be the turn of “Ra di Spina”, a musical project by Laura Cuomo.
Second Weekend
The second weekend of the festival begins on September 6 with “Corto Maltese and Irene of Boston”, followed on September 7 by “Gaius Plinius Secundus. The Last Voyage of Pliny the Elder”, a show by Tato Russo. On September 8, the weekend closes with “De Rerum Natura”, curated by the MDA Danza association.
Final Week Events
The last week is particularly rich in events. On September 11th “Commedia&Arte” with Markus Kupferblum, on September 12th the conference “Images and phonetic signs in the 'oldest writing in Europe'”, on September 13th “Sibyls: oracles and divinations in modern form,” and on September 14th “The sea that unites us” with choreography by Emma Cianchi.
Grand Finale with Francesco Montanari
The festival will end on September 15 with a great theatrical show: Francesco Montanari will interpret “Menecmi” by Plautus, with the adaptation by Arianna Mattioli and the direction by Enrico Zaccheo. The show is produced by Savà Produzioni Creative and promises to be a noteworthy grand finale.
