Salerno. The Carabinieri of Salerno, in collaboration with the Labor Inspectorate and cultural mediators, conducted an operation against labor exploitation in a hospitality facility in the Vallo di Diano.

During the checks, 30 people were found working in inhuman conditions, including 17 foreigners without regular residence permits. They are citizens of Sri Lanka, India and Moldova.

These workers were forced to live in makeshift quarters inside a building under construction, already under seizure for building violations.

The authorities found serious violations of workplace safety regulations and issued a suspension order.

The owners of the facility were arrested on charges of exploitation and their labor consultant was reported. Administrative sanctions totaling approximately 74.000 euros were also imposed. The investigation is still ongoing.
