Salerno. The Carabinieri of Salerno, in collaboration with the Labour Inspectorate and cultural mediators, conducted an operation against labour exploitation in a accommodation of the Vallo di Diano.
During the checks, 30 people were found working in inhuman conditions, including 17 foreigners without regular residence permits. They are citizens of Sri Lanka, India and Moldova.
These workers were forced to live in makeshift quarters inside a building under construction, already under seizure for building violations.
The authorities have found serious violations of the rules on job security and issued a suspension order.
The owners of the facility were arrested on charges of exploitation and their labor consultant was reported. Administrative sanctions totaling approximately 74.000 euros were also imposed. The investigation is still ongoing.
