Naples. After the arrest warrant, a precautionary measure was issued for mafia boss Gioacchino Fontanella and his three accomplices, accused of extortion using mafia methods.
Along with the 57-year-old former mafia boss, the precautionary order was served in prison on Francesco Sorrentino, almost 50 years old, and Nicola Mendola, 52 years old.
The three are accused of attempting to extort a sum of between 50.000 and 250.000 euros from an entrepreneur, by going to his company several times and verbally threatening him.
The investigation, conducted by the Salerno District Anti-Mafia Directorate, led the Carabinieri of the Torre Annunziata Group to execute an order from the Salerno preliminary investigations judge, who ordered the suspect's pre-trial detention.
The three are accused of attempted extortion aggravated by mafia methods and purposes, having acted in concert to facilitate the Camorra clan of the 'Standpipe', active in the Sant'Antonio Abate area, in the Naples area.
The precautionary order, requested by prosecutors from the Salerno Anti-Mafia Directorate (DDA), was executed at the prisons of Spoleto, Naples-Secondigliano, and Salerno, where the suspects were already being held.
The investigation began with the entrepreneur's complaint and allowed investigators to reconstruct how the three repeatedly threatened the victim at his company, with the intent of extorting money.
According to investigators, the extortion attempt was carried out "using the so-called mafia method," with the aim of establishing and increasing the criminal prestige of the Fontanella clan, which operated in the area.
