The Salerno State Police, in collaboration with the Guardia di Finanza, arrested a 31-year-old Tunisian citizen who was attempting to illegally re-enter Italy despite already having an expulsion order. The man was intercepted shortly after the Geo Barents ship disembarked yesterday at the port of Salerno. Salerno.

The 31-year-old was spotted in the waters off the municipality of Cetara by a pleasure boat, which promptly alerted the authorities. A patrol boat from the Salerno Coast Guard picked up the man and handed him over to the State Police for identification. During the investigation, Doctors Without Borders personnel aboard the NGO vessel confirmed that the Tunisian was one of the passengers on board until the hours immediately before disembarkation.

At the time of his arrest, the 31-year-old was in possession of a bag containing clothing, cash, credit cards, a cell phone, and other personal items, all protected by plastic bags to prevent damage from the seawater. The items were seized for further investigation.
