He pretends to be a carabiniere and defrauds an elderly woman of over 20 thousand euros. This morning the military of the Castel Volturno (Caserta) lieutenancy executed the precautionary measure of house arrest, issued by the Court of Oristano, against a 32-year-old from Caserta, already known to the police, considered responsible for aggravated fraud and improper use of a credit card in competition.
The investigations began following the complaint filed by the elderly victim on May 9. According to the reconstruction, the man, introducing himself on the phone as a Carabinieri marshal, deceived her into giving her cash, gold jewelry and her ATM card with the relative PIN code.
The man told her that his daughter had just hit a pedestrian and that, to avoid unpleasant criminal consequences, it was necessary to immediately compensate the injured person's family, informing her that a lawyer friend of his would soon come to collect the money. In this way, with the help of an accomplice, already identified and subject to a precautionary measure, the 32-year-old managed to fraudulently pocket over 20 thousand euros. In this case, however, the 84-year-old, after contacting his daughter who confirmed that she had not been involved in any accident, discovered the scam and reported the incident to the police.
