The sacrilegious thief from Ischia has been tracked down and reported. He is Pasquale Lo Russo, a 32-year-old Neapolitan, who will now have to defend himself in the upcoming trial on charges of aggravated theft.
He was the one who looted the offerings from the Church of Santa Restituta in Lacco Ameno. He also had an accomplice, a worker at a local place of worship, who will face charges of aiding and abetting.
With a boldness that disconcerted the entire community, the man entered churches, taking advantage of quieter times, and deftly emptied the offering containers.
The investigations, conducted by the agents of the Ischia police station, revealed a disturbing picture: Lo Russo, already known to the police, had carried out at least four robberies, the last of which in the Basilica of Santa Restituta, patron saint of the island.

Surveillance camera footage clearly showed him recklessly stealing the faithful's money. These images, which were shared on social media, alarmed him so much that he left the island several days ago.
But it didn't help him avoid being identified and reported. The news of his identification brought great relief to the citizens of Ischia, tired of these constant sacrilegious acts. "We can finally return to pray in peace," commented Father Gaetano Pugliese, parish priest of the Church of Sant'Antonio. "Such a vile act could not go unpunished."
