A forty-year-old Albanian prisoner asked to be transferred from Poggioreale prison and, receiving no response, attacked two prison police inspectors.
He initially tried to strangle them, then attempted to stab them with an improvised awl made from a plastic fork. The incident occurred yesterday. Tommaso De Lia, regional secretary of Con.si.pe Campania, commented: "Thanks to the timely intervention of the staff on duty, the worst was avoided", underlining the gravity of the event and the need for serious and concrete measures.
"We have been calling for the permanent expulsion of foreign prisoners from our country for some time," he added.
Luigi Castaldo, vice-president of Con.si.pe., declared that the phenomenon of aggression must be urgently addressed by the legislator to send a strong and clear message: those who commit such acts of violence against the prison staff must face exemplary and dissuasive consequences.
Castaldo hopes that the State will demonstrate its firmness against these violent behaviors. "Con.si.pe. expresses its utmost solidarity with the officers involved in this brutal attack," concluded Castaldo.
