A technical fault hit the Caremar ferry Fauno this morning in Casamicciola, on the island of Ischia.
A generator problem caused the door to lock just after vehicles and passengers had boarded, forcing the latter to wait a long time before being able to disembark.
Only after a considerable delay, the passengers were transferred to the Medmar ship , bound for Pozzuoli.
MP Francesco Borrelli of the AVS (Italian National Assembly) shared the video of the incident on social media, denouncing the incident: "Another predictable disruption. The door of a Caremar ferry jammed again, as it did in early August, forcing passengers to exit through a side exit and leaving their vehicles stranded for hours.
These ferries are in a disastrous condition and must be replaced. We can no longer accept that maritime transport in the Gulf is carried out with vessels that look like makeshift boats. It is essential to ensure safety and impose strict regulations on shipowners, so that they offer a service that justifies the high cost of tickets.”
