“I am ready to report everything to the judicial authorities if the riverbeds that cross the territory are not made safe”.
This is the announcement made by Giuseppe Caccavale, mayor of Cicciano and president of the Municipalities' Committee of the Development Agency of the Municipalities of the Nola area, who, following the recent floods, wrote to the Prefect of Naples and warned the Campania Region "to intervene to prevent damage to the safety of people and agricultural production."
Caccavale underlined that the competent institutions had “already been alerted on 19 August, when, again due to bad weather, the wall of a section of the riverbed near the Cutignano flood basin had collapsed”.
“Even in that case – he continued – the water flooded the surrounding areas causing many problems. A request that however remained a dead letter, so much so that the situation further worsened.
It is not possible to continue like this. If even the victims counted a few kilometers from us were not enough, I wonder what is needed to move those who have the duty to intervene".
"I will take action - he concluded - to promote a conference of services extended to all the Municipalities that, starting from Irpinia, are crossed by waterways. It is useless to invest resources to implement stopgap solutions if we do not intervene upstream of the problem.
The time has come to get serious: announcements are useless. High-profile interventions are necessary and urgent, capable of quickly making our territories truly safe before they pay further tributes in human lives”.
