Due to the closure of Catania airport airspace due to volcanic ash, several flights have been diverted to Palermo airport at the moment.
Among these are flights from Sofia, Bergamo, Naples, Rome Fiumicino, Krakow, Pisa, Venice, Warsaw, Brussels, Cagliari, all Ryanair.
Gesap, the management company of Palermo's Falcone Borsellino International Airport, announced this via its social media pages.
Flight operations will resume once the volcanic ash has been removed from the pavements affected by aircraft movements.
Flight operations are currently estimated to resume at 18:00 PM. Passengers are therefore requested not to go to the airport until they have checked the status of their flight with their airline.
