A new wave of violence has shocked the city of Afragola this afternoon.

In broad daylight, a commando of about ten people, armed and with their faces covered, sowed panic in via Morelli, opening fire on two men, Salvatore Forte and Catello Forte, uncle and nephew, both with criminal records.

The attack happened quickly. The attackers, arriving on motorcycles and scooters, fired about twenty gunshots, grazing Salvatore Forte. Catello Forte, however, was injured by the neck of a broken bottle.

Panic among passers-by

The scene, like a Western movie, threw the many passers-by into panic. Hundreds of people ran away, seeking shelter behind parked cars or in the entrances of buildings. The fear was palpable, with witnesses reporting moments of terror.

Officers from the Afragola police station and the Naples Flying Squad responded to the scene. The investigation, coordinated by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate, is ongoing, but the most likely hypothesis is a settling of scores related to drug trafficking.

A city in shock

This latest episode of violence puts the spotlight back on the situation in Afragola. Only a few months ago, the city was the scene of a violent brawl in Piazza Castello, between two rival families, which ended with several injuries.

The resurgence of organized crime is causing deep concern among citizens, who are calling for greater controls and decisive intervention by institutions to restore legality.
