Naples. Mappatella Beach still in the sights of criminals, new theft to the detriment of two girls a few hours after the attack on a thief. The municipal chairs were also stolen.

During an inspection by Francesco Emilio Borrelli at Mappatella Beach, another theft occurred. Two girls approached the deputy to report the disappearance of their backpacks, which occurred while they were in the water.

"We went swimming, and when we came back, our backpacks were gone," they said. "Everything was inside: phone, money, documents." This incident occurred a few hours after a thief was caught red-handed stealing a cell phone with an accomplice. Both were later arrested by the Municipal Police.

The Mappatella and Rotonda Diaz beaches are under siege by criminals of all kinds who, taking advantage of the presence of so many residents and tourists, use the beach as a hunting ground to steal cell phones, wallets, and backpacks as soon as their owners leave for the beach.

Many complaints have arrived in the last few days of a phenomenon that risks degenerating more and more. Like the beating of a thief that occurred yesterday morning. Faced with this drift, I believe it is essential to coordinate a task force of the police to guarantee the necessary security to one of the most popular places in our city.

I consider this a fundamental prerequisite for extending the opening of the beach until October, given the extraordinary turnout and satisfaction of the visitors ,” declared MP Borrelli at the end of the inspection.

“Not only common crime – added Borrelli – but also the constant presence of illegal immigrants who rent out chairs and umbrellas without any license on the public beach, illegal moorings that make a roaring trade by transporting unsuspecting tourists and citizens along the coast.

Business of thousands of euros a week that go to feed the coffers of the clans that maneuver behind the scenes, profiting from the people who frequent the Mappatella beach. The numerous seizures by the police were of no use; the next day these delinquents were already ready with new chairs and new umbrellas to rent.

During the inspection I also noticed illegal activities of selling food products without a license and without any hygienic-sanitary precautions. Finally, the incivility continues in the use of showers and bathrooms that are left in deplorable conditions, not to mention the continuation of municipal chairs and umbrellas intended for the physically disabled, which are moved away from the walkways arbitrarily taking away places from those entitled to them.

Naples Services staff also reported the theft of some of these chairs. It's easy to imagine that these thefts were committed by the very same squatters who illegally rent out deckchairs and umbrellas at Mappatella Beach. Municipal services threaten the businesses of these people, which is why they must be improved. Only through constant and adequate controls can we save the Mappatella beach from crime and incivility,” Borrelli concluded.
