A young prisoner awaiting trial took his own life in the Parma prison on the afternoon of August 15th, just as the Radicals and the National Guarantor were visiting the institution.
Aldo di Giacomo, general secretary of the penitentiary police union SPP, made this known, according to whom yesterday's suicide brings the number of suicides in prisons since the beginning of the year to 67 and to 3 in the Parma institute.
Prison in which the inmate who took his own life yesterday had arrived from Ancona only 3 days ago.
"It is a state massacre without the slightest commitment on the part of the government to contain it. Di Giacomo claims"The government should act in the collective interest and not base its decisions—in this case, disinterest—on political ideology alone. The prison police are exhausted; without intervention, the system will implode."
