One thing is certain: the alleged mega party to celebrate the 66th birthday of Madonna, the famous Italian-American pop star, if it ever takes place, will not be in the Pompeii excavations and even less in the Teatro Grande.
The official, blunt denial, after days of rumors circulating on social media and in newspapers, comes from the Pompeii archaeological park, which dismisses the rumor of a party at the excavations with 500 guests as "unfounded news."
"Regarding the rumors circulating in the press these days about a mega-party for an international celebrity with 500 guests in the Pompeii excavations, as well as an alleged €30 rent for the Teatro Grande, the Archaeological Park clarifies that these are baseless reports," the statement reads, silencing any speculation and dismissing the rumor that has been fueling the flames in recent days as mere whimsy.
A flurry of rumors fueled by the fact that the Naples Prefecture has convened a provincial committee for public order and security for tomorrow, which would also address this issue.
In fact, if the party at the excavations had been confirmed, it would have required special security measures for an event that, although on paper strictly reserved for guests (there was talk of 500 super VIPs and catering provided by starred chefs), would inevitably have attracted the crowds of special occasions to Pompeii.
Italy, a country dear to the artist, has already been Madonna's chosen destination to celebrate her birthday in the past, in Puglia in 2017 and 2021, and in Sicily in 2022.
The Municipality of Pompeii had also expressed its willingness to welcome the artist. The original plan was for the singer to blow out her candles with a few close friends and family members on a yacht off the coast of the Faraglioni, then land on the mainland at the port of Marina di Stabia and, from there, drive to the excavations.
To give strength to the rumours of a landing at Teatro Grande, a traditional prestigious stage for major shows, the rumor has it that it was rented by an international company for a party to be held on August 16, the star's birthday.
The figure had also been circulated: 30.000 euros, precisely, a circumstance as seen flatly denied by the Park. For the fans who already imagined reaching Pompeii to wish the singer a happy birthday, a real cold shower.
Or rather, 'Frozen'. To use one of the pop star's most famous hit songs. But that doesn't mean the singer's birthday (she's already arrived in Italy) won't actually be celebrated in Campania, in some other evocative location.
