Naples, a city increasingly loved by tourists, has seen a boom in arrivals this year.

Thanks to its history, culture and natural beauty, more and more people choose to spend their holidays in the capital of Campania.

As a result, accommodation facilities such as bed and breakfasts and holiday homes have also increased. But not everyone is following the rules. In the first 7 months of the year, an increase of 24,60% was recorded compared to the same period in 2023.

In the last two months alone, the finance police of the Provincial Command of Naples have identified 32 illegal bed & breakfasts in the capital city of Naples (Spanish Quarters, Avvocata and Fuorigrotta), on the islands of Capri and Ischia as well as in the municipalities of Torre del Greco, Torre Annunziata, Castellammare di Stabia and Massa Lubrense.

These lodgings, often hidden in palaces or luxury villas, offered services similar to the legal ones but without paying taxes.

In Massa Lubrense illegal B&Bs in luxury villas for 3 thousand euros a week

In Massa Lubrense, four luxury villas (three of which were declared as first homes) in Termini, not far from the sea, were found to be used as accommodation facilities, with a capacity of six to eight people each, for overnight stays in which the fee requested ranged from 2 to 3 thousand euros per week.

In Forio d'Ischia, a person, completely unknown to the tax authorities, managed four mini apartments within a single building, each with an independent entrance, providing multiple accessory services with characteristics typical of the entrepreneurial form (catering services, daily cleaning, parking space, etc.).

The managers of these illegal accommodations advertised their facilities on major online booking sites, such as Booking and Airbnb, and asked customers to pay in cash. In some cases, real entrepreneurial activities were found, with catering services and daily cleaning.

For these crimes, those responsible risk heavy fines and may have to pay the evaded taxes. In addition, those who did not report the presence of the guests to the authorities, as required by law, have also been reported.
